How are we different?

At Hear Check we believe that to participate fully in life, you need to be able to hear well.

We are a fully private, quality hearing service

  • We are in this for the long haul, with life time care – you stay with us even after 21 or 25 years of age
  • No long waiting periods for appointments and we also offer priority appointments
  • Individualised and flexible approach to care, we don’t believe that one size fits all
  • Choice of hearing aids from any manufacturer
  • We do not offer sales commission
  • We collaborate and work with the NDIS on not only hearing aids but also assistive listening devices, auditory therapy, counselling and support
  • Our Audiologists visit schools, speak to teachers, AVTs, coaches and therapists to train and support them in order to facilitate the best communication and environment for them and students
  • Environment assessments (noise measurements) to ensure that children are getting the most out of their environment at school or extra-curricular activities
  • Attend therapy appointments with Speech Pathologists and optimise hearing aids at the same time, to get those tricky sounds and make sure they are being heard
  • We work with children who have a hearing aids one side and a cochlear implant the other, offering a holistic care approach

Dr Tegan Keogh

Dr Tegan Keogh

Clinical Audiologist

Dr Tegan Keogh is a specialist Clinical Audiologist, with extensive clinical practice in hearing health. Tegan is currently the only privately practising Audiologist on the Sunshine Coast with a Doctorate (PhD) degree, and one of a very small few in Australia. Her practice, Hear Check is dynamic, innovative and client focussed.

Tegan has practiced Audiology on the Sunshine Coast since 1999 and is an international leader in the field of Audiology (hearing). Her work in Audiology is internationally published and she presents to international audiences.

She has worked extensively within the Audiology profession including; large state hospitals, an Australian Government agency (which is one of the world’s largest hearing service providers), and the University of Queensland.

Tegan successfully established the only State Public Health Audiology Service within the Sunshine Coast and greater area. She has worked in the development and implementation of state wide policy and protocols, ensuring the provision of quality Audiology services for children across the state. Her experience in this area drives her to deliver Audiology services to the community which reflect quality, expertise, and centre on the individual.

As a specialist Audiologist in Children’s Hearing and Auditory Processing Assessment, Tegan adores working with children. She has worked closely with children and families of hearing-impaired children across the state, ensuring that children and families receive the most thorough and technologically advanced information about their hearing as possible. Tegan has also specialised in Adult Hearing Assessment and rehabilitation, including high technology hearing aids, and Occupational Workplace Health and Safety Hearing Assessments. She has provided consultative advice, regarding hearing in the workplace, to the Department of Workplace Health & Safety for legislation and policy amendments. She has also worked in adult hearing rehabilitation including stroke and brain injured patients.

She thoroughly enjoys working with new technology within the hearing sector, including the provision of the smallest, least visable hearing aids and devices. Tegan enjoys working with clients to ensure that they are achieving the most in life by optimising their hearing and listening.

Julie Watts

Clinical Audiologist

Julie has over 15 years’ experience as a practising clinical audiologist and has worked with pensioners, veterans, children and adults with complex hearing needs. She joined Hear Check in 2015 after spending many years working for a large government agency providing rehabilitative services to pensioners, veterans and children. During this time Julie was privileged to visit remote parts of Western Australia and the Northern Territory for several years providing outreach services to Indigenous communities.

Julie specialises in school and kindy screenings; helping children with central auditory processing disorder; adult hearing assessments; occupational workplace health and safety hearing assessments; and educating patients and health professionals about advances in hearing technology.

She loves the challenge of meeting a patient who hasn’t got on well with hearing aids so far, and helping them find a solution that will get them connecting with their family and friends again. It’s usually simpler than they think! Julie is dedicated to family-focused, evidence-based and ethical care.

Julie grew up on the Sunshine Coast, is married with two small children and lives locally. Julie works part-time Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday currently. In her spare time she enjoys running, reading and listening to true crime podcasts.
